MAILE LAULI'ILI'I FOR CHILDREN 12 AND UNDER $5
Climbing tendrils of this native vine gently adorn the upland forests with subtle fragrance. Leaves of the Kauai’s Maile Lauli’ili’i are tiny, considered to be the most fragrant in all of Hawai’i. Or you can sign to be a Kokee Member online.
MOKIHANA INDIVIDUAL CATEGORY $15
The haunting, anise-like fragrance of even a single mokihana berry will remind any kama’aina of Kaua’i, the only island on which this small tree grows. The berries were once used to scent kapa. Each spring, hapu’u fronds are curled in a “family circle” of fiddle heads. They unfurl as days lengthen, offering moist shade for little plants below. Hapu’u is also called “mother of ‘ohi’a” because its fibrouse trunk provides an ideal surface for tin ‘ohi’a seeds to root.
